New, and or replacement, oil pump drive shafts are available for all pre-62 v-8 engines. A new, ‘tall’, driveshaft is required when using an LA style distributor. The requirement is based on the change in the height of the block where the distributor mounts. The LA block is approximately 0.600″ shorter than a 392 block and approximately 0.300″ shorter than the 331-354 block. The Dodge 241-260-270 block has the same height as the LA and the LA distributor is a direct fit without additional changes. Dodge 315-325 and DeSoto engines are essentially the same as the Chrysler 331-354.
See photos for details of the following parts.
Replacement shafts are made from alloy 4140 and are precision ground to exact tolerances. The ends are induction hardened to Rc 50 for extended service life.

Note the collar on the tall 392 assembly that is required to capture the tang of the LA distributor.
The collar presses onto the exposed portion of the drive shaft above the gear.
Note the long 354 shaft assembly with the shaft flush with the top of the gear.
